What Are Quartz Countertops?

Quartz is a man-made material created from particles of natural quartz that are bound together in resin. Because of its engineering, Quartz offers a more predictable pattern than that found in natural stone. Quartz comes in an assortment of color options and designs. It is highly sought-after because of its stain resistant properties. However, it is susceptible to scorching if exposed to direct heat.

Characteristics of Quartz Countertops

  • Strength – Quartz is highly durable and stain resistant. Quartz hardness ranges from 7-8 on the Mohs scale. It is also 99.9% bacteria-free which makes it an excellent choice for countertops.
  • Maintenance – For simple, everyday cleaning use a soft sponge, water, and dish soap. For harder to remove grime use a little Bar Keeper’s Friend (the liquid version) with a soft sponge. No sealing required.
  • Appearance – Quartz is one of the most versatile products for countertop selections. Quartz can mimic the appearance of natural stone, come in more simple designs, or monochromatic palettes to suit your design aesthetic.
  • Price – Because of its wide variety of patterns, colors, and brand name typically play a part in pricing. At Geos we have four price levels for our in-house colors to help keep your project on budget.
